My work as a freelance artist has consisted mainly of commissioned
paintings and murals. I have a perticular intrest in live portraiture which I am developing at festivals and events throughout the Munster area during the summer months.
I initially studied Graphic Design/Illustration at Waterford Regional Technical College, now WIT, from 1986 until 1990. This was followed by two years working in Dublin freelance painting murals, illustration and logo design.
Between 1992 and 1997, I worked with Moving Still Animation Productionsin Dublin as an inbetweener/renderer. ‘Moving Still’ produced mainlyhand-rendered, short animated films and television commercials for RTE,Channel 4 and BBC Northern Ireland. An example is the 1996 production of‘Animals‘. Thiis was a five-part animated series introduction to the Irishlanguage for primary school age for BBC Northern Ireland.I attended the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare in 1997,followed by three years in the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, where I recieved a BA Degree in Fine Art/Painting in 2001.
After Munster Rugby’s Heineken Cup success in 2006, I did a series of sixteen paintings commemorating the victory and produced Limited Edition prints of each
painting in conjunction with Munster Rugby.
In 2004, I got the opportunity to work in Shanghai, China, painting muralsfor a restaurant and conference room and for a number of bars.
In 2012, I worked again on a project in Guangzhou, China which involved painting murals and paintings for a restaurant and bar in a brewery complex there.
In September 2016, I was awarded the Kildare Portrait Artist of the Year.
In recent years I have also worked on set designs for the Tipperary Musical Society productions of The Hot Mikado, All Shook Up, Evita and Nine-to-Five.
I am now based in my native Tipperary where I continue to work freelance.
